Hildene - June 14th
Ade has made reservations for the Chicks to go to Hildene in Manchester, VT, for the “Celebration of the Peonies and More” on Wednesday, June 14th.

This will include a:

* tour of the Georgian Revival mansion (summer home to Robert Todd Lincoln, Abe’s only child to reach adulthood) and formal garden with more than 20 varieties of heirloom  peonies in bloom

* catered buffet lunch in the mansion’s Beckwith Room, which will include assorted sandwiches (The Augustan Wrap—smoked turkey, bacon lettuce, tomato and mayo; Caprese  sandwich—fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, fresh basil, and maple balsamic reduction; Vermont panini—ham, sliced apples, Vermont cheddar with Vermont maple Dijon mustard on  focaccia; roast beef with Boursin cheese on baguette; herb  chicken salad sliders with apples and dried cranberries), a green salad with Maple balsamic dressing, chips, brownies,  cookies, lemonade  and unsweetened iced tea

* PowerPoint presentation on the historic gardens (This will be presented during dessert.)

* sampling of Vermont foods and cheeses

* visits to the goat and cheese-making faculty, the Pullman car, the Cutting and Kitchen Garden, the Butterfly Garden, Sunbeam and the exhibit “Many Voices,” and The Museum  Store filled to the brim with all things garden and peony

We need to arrive by 10:00 am to do the tour.  Lunch would be around 12:00 pm.

The cost is $40 a person.   I need to know if you want to go by June 4th because I have to give Hildene and the caterer a headcount by then.  Please make your check out to Adrienne Birchler.  My address is 37 Willoughby Drive, Albany 12205.  I’ll be at this Friday’s meeting at the Route 7 Diner, so you can give it to me then if you’d like.

Call me if you have any questions.  452-0618.   I suggest you wear comfortable shoes since we’ll be walking around the grounds. I was at Hildene in the fall a couple of years ago, and the place is beautiful.  It’s on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Ade

New Event

July 25th - Lake George Theatre

A Note from Ade

I’ve reserved some seats for dinner and a showing of “Last of the Red Hot Lovers” at the Lake George Dinner Theatre held at Holiday Inn Resort (2223 Canada St., 0.7 miles north on Route 9 off I-87, Exit 21).

The cost will be $58 ($55 plus $3 service charge per ticket and includes tax and tip) for 15 guests.

If it is less than 15 ladies, the cost would be $63 ($60 plus $3 service charge and includes tax and tip).

Luncheon matinee - Lunch 11:30 AM; Show 1 PM

About the show:   A delightful Neil Simon comedy which is timeless —   middle-aged and happily married, seafood restaurateur Benny Cashman also is overworked and overweight when he suffers a mid-life crisis.  We follow his attempts through a foul-mouthed neurotic, a kooky 20-something actress, and then Jeanette who is married to Benny's best friend.
Luncheon menu:

* medallions of beef with Bordelaise sauce served with roasted potatoes

* oven baked chicken breast with spinach, artichoke and cream cheese topped with roasted red pepper sauce, served with roasted potatoes (gluten free)

* broiled Atlantic salmon with a lemon and white wine sauce served with rice pilaf (gluten free)

* vegetarian pasta with sautéed vegetables served over penne pasta

All entrees are served with salad, rolls, vegetables, dessert, coffee or hot tea

Let me know if you’re interested in going.  The number of positive replies I get will determine how much it’ll cost each of us.

Let me know if you have any questions.  Chucky and I’ve been to this three times over the years and enjoyed it immensely.

Ade
