GEORGIA O’KEEFFE: VISIONS OF HAWAI‘I – NY BOTANICAL GARDENS: JUNE 29

Date: June 29th

Discover the artist’s little-known depictions of the Hawaiian Islands—and the plants and landscapes that inspired them.
Pioneering American modernist Georgia O’Keeffe (1887–1986) conveyed a distinct sense of place with innovative depictions of her surroundings, from stark New Mexican landscapes to New York cityscapes. Yet flowers and plants were subjects that engaged O’Keeffe throughout her career. Curated by Theresa Papanikolas, Ph.D., of the Honolulu Museum of Art, this landmark exhibition will offer a rare focus on 20 of O’Keeffe’s depictions of Hawai‘i from a nine-week sojourn in 1939 commissioned by the Hawaiian Pineapple Company to create artwork for an advertising campaign.
A lush exhibition in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory of Hawaiian flora and a stunning display in the LuEsther T. Mertz Library Art Gallery that includes more than 15 of O’Keeffe’s Hawai‘i paintings—not seen together in New York since their debut in 1940—will spotlight a transformative experience in the legendary artist’s life, revealing O’Keeffe’s deeply felt impressions and the enduring influence of the Islands’ dramatic landscapes and exotic plants.

Other events in the works and planning stages :

Kathy Rosello has suggested having sandwiches from Slicks.  As we talked about it being too small a place for all of us we thought maybe a picnic in the park would be good.  We need to plan a date.

Vicky was looking into a summer event as was Lynn.

Barb suggested we go back to the restaurant on the river that Judy brought us to last year.

Another suggestion we have is the Lake George boat cruise.

And another suggestion is  a trip downstate to walk across the Hudson.  Lots going on.  Any suggestions are more than welcome!

Chicks That is the news so far.

Diamond Divas Sorority Happenings  - April 2018
Image may contain: 7 people, including Patti Baidy and Marsha Brunelle, people smiling, people standing
I

We were in our St Patrick’s Day greenery and even got to have the jazz trio sing and play O’Danny Boy (thanks to our irish lass, Judy who got the group to sing for us).  21 Diamond Divas attended and we were so blessed that this event happened between snow storms so we got there and back home safely.

News to share:

~ Marliyn Cross and Judy Pinto  were just back from vacationing in Florida.  They enjoyed the weather and was surprised as all the snow we had up here.

~ Several  divas are planning a fun trip to NC for the 10th Black Hat Dazzling Divas Anniversary.  Sharon goes all out to make her event one of the best.

~  Arlene Sherman and Patti Baidy  joined us at the brunch and later were off to try their luck at the Rivers Casino after the brunch. We hope the green they were wearing brought some luck of the irish to both of them at the casino

~Chucky was in NC with her hubby on a long weekend, hope the weather was nice down there.

~Tina and Barbie were  out of town attending at a Red Hat Convention in Maine.  Tina won the Convention's Best Hat contest!

~Ellie reported that her sister Betty is feeling much better and we were all happy to hear this great news.

~Joanne Collins and her sister Janice Washburn traveled down from Queensbury to join us.  We were so happy they were able to attend with no worries of bad roads.

~New Diamond Diva Member!  -  Gayle Carhide
Lynn Martin asked her friend Gayle Carhide to join us at the Sunday brunch, in fact Gayle decided to join and is our newest Black Hat Diamond Diva member!  Gayle is from Rotterdam and lives on the Schenectady/Rotterdam border and attended Mohonasen High School.  Please welcome Gayle as our next event

~Next on our calendar is our celebrating of our Diamond Divas Sorority's  8th Anniversary.  Hard to believe that it all began at our first Black Hat dinner at the Stockade Inn in Schenectady.

We all looked beautiful then as we do now!

Plans are in the works to have our Sorority Anniversary Dinner at the Glass Tavern located on Saratoga Rd, Suite 140,  in the Socha Plaza, Schenectady, NY ( Scotia) in the Month of May.
