Peace Pagoda, Lunch at the Man of Kent & Visit the Berkshire Bird Paradise Botanical Gardens
Ade and Chucky welcome any Chicks who’d like to join them for an afternoon in Rensselaer County.  They plan to start out with lunch at the Man of Kent Tavernin Hoosick Falls before driving to the nearby Berkshire Bird Paradise Sanctuary and Botanical Gardens  (43 Red Pond Road Petersburg, Grafton) for a visit.  Admission there is $8 for seniors.  After that they’ll drive to the Grafton Peace Pagoda (87 Crandall Road, Petersburg) to check out one of only two peace pagodas in the country. It doesn’t cost anything to visit there, and folks are welcome to stay as long as they want.

Peace Pagodas are a symbol of non-violence dating as far back as 2000 years ago.  In October 1985, work began on the structure soon to be called the Grafton Peace Pagoda. After 8 years of toil and struggle, the Pagoda was completed and dedicated in the fall of 1993.

Since the Japanese Nipponzan Myohoji order is not permitted to solicit money for any reason, the Pagoda was built entirely with donated labor, funds and materials. Many volunteers contributed tens of thousands of hours of labor to complete the Pagoda. Recycled materials and tools also found new life during construction of the project.

Over the course of time, visitors from many nations and all walks of life began to arrive at the site. Representatives of many faiths—Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Native Americans, Bahai’s, Sufis, Buddhists, Spiritualists and Agnostics—have all been drawn to this special place.

There is only one other peace pagoda in operation in the USA, located in Leverett, MA (just north of Amherst). A third US Peace Pagoda is now under construction in the Great Smoky Mountains of Eastern Tennessee.

Please let Ade or Chucky know  by June 18th if you’d like to join them.  Plan to meet them at the Man of Kent Tavern (4452 NY 7, Hoosick Falls; http://manofkenttavern.com ) at 11:30
am for lunch.

7/27/19 - Day at Vicky's Camp - The Glitzy Chicks Olympics
Date:   7/27/19  - Saturday
Time: 11am-5:30pm
A Note from Vicky. She wanted to share this information with everyone,
"I have reserved the full pavilion area so if we have lousy weather, we can still eat, and play under cover of the pavilion.    Folks should think of it as a day (full day) trip unless they want to either camp over at the campground (I will reserve two or three sites for Friday and/or Saturday  if I know there is interest)  or they can think about staying overnight  nearby in North Creek, Warrensburg, or Schroon Lake. ( in Schroon Lake I suggest the Adirondack Inn- a little pricey but extremely clean and cozy.  Also, They have a suite that will sleep up to six or eight, I believe. PLANNING FOR JUST THE DAY TRIP IS JUST FINE.   The only caution that I have is for people to understand that driving in the hills at night can be an adventure with twists turns dark and critters!  So as long as they plan ahead to drive back before dark ( whether home or to a hotel) they’ll be fine. I just need to hear from folks via email, text or phone call if they can make it and if they will need a space at a camp site.  two or three tents can use the same site .   Go to the web site for Town of Minerva, Donnelly Beach Campground for more info and photos.  I look forward to sharing this part of the Adirondacks with anyone who can make it!!!!! "
Please let Vicky know if you plan to attend and whether you will be sleeping over and want to use part of a camp site or if you will be coming up just for the day.
Vicky and her Olympics Committee have a lot of fun events planned, It will be an Olympic Theme and Vicky assures us that we all will be able to participate in the fun she has planned for the day events.

After a discussion on what months would be good, September was chosen. Several ladies are planning to go on this adventure during 9/6-9/10. Some will be staying two days and some have decided they will be staying three in order to take in some sightseeing.  If you are interested in attending  Please contact the Franciscan Guest House, Kennebunk Beach, Maine,

The event will be from 10am to 7pm.  I know several groups are going through the day on Friday.  Several of us will be going up to the vending later in the day around 5.  I hope you will be able to take some time out of your day to support this fun vending event that our vendors, Mike and Diane that are offering to us to shop.  Please read through the information that Betty Parker has listed below.

The Glove Museum is America’s only free standing Glove Museum housed in a former 1852 United Methodist Church in Dorloo, which is a small hamlet outside of Sharon Springs.

Daniel Storto founder and director has acquired a vast collection of glove making tools and collection of vintage gloves dating back to the 1800s.  Mr. Storto, a world renowned glove maker has also established his design studio where visitors can observe him at work from design to finished gloves for men, women and children.    Daniel will be our tour guide and will answer any questions we might have during the tour.

There will be also time for us to do some shopping in the museum gift shop after the tour. Everything on display is made on the premises by Daniel.  There will be an opportunity to purchase gloves and other accessories during our visit.

If you are planning on attending, please let me know by May 15th.  My cell is 518-727-4380 and home is 518-355-3334 and my email is lmpflieger@gmail.com.

Once we know how many will be attending we will have an opportunity to car pool.

September 2019 - During our breakfast meeting this morning, Judy shared with us a place she and Pat visited last year in Maine.  It is called the Franciscan Guest House.  They really had a wonderful time and thought members of our group would also be interested in staying there.
